Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup Crown Royal whiskey
  • For the frosting:
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/4 cup Crown Royal whiskey
    • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
    • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tray with 12 cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and Crown Royal.
  5. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Allow cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. To make the frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until smooth and fluffy.
  9. Mix in the Crown Royal, caramel sauce, and sea salt until well combined.
  10. Frost the cooled cupcakes generously with the caramel Crown Royal frosting. Optionally, drizzle with extra caramel sauce and a sprinkle of sea salt.

Helpful Tips

  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute Crown Royal with an equal amount of milk and a teaspoon of caramel extract.
  • Store the cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
  • Experiment with different whiskey brands for unique flavor profiles.

Pairings

Enjoy these cupcakes with a cup of hot coffee or a glass of milk. For an adult twist, pair with Crown Royal neat or over ice.
